Paranormasight: The Seven Mysteries of Honjo
I was never one for visual novels, as I find they sit awkwardly between adventure game and comic book, with gameplay being little more than stabbing A through frankly unbearable writing. Thus I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this first entry in the Paranormasight series, which I'll admit I got on sale for cheapsies. The Seven Mysteries of Honjo is more about reading than puzzles, but thankfully the writing is sharp, with a full cast of well defined characters dealing with an intriguing central mystery, and while puzzles are fairly minimal they're mostly on the clever side of things. It also makes good use of its conceit of jumping between the different characters' stories through an interface themed around switching between channels on TV. Unlocking its "true" ending (there are multiple endings, but they're all on the grotesque and/or nihilist side of things) required digging for a guide, but I still liked it enough that I immediately ended up getting the sequel.
