MÖRKTOBER 7 - EFFIGY
IN WAY OF EXPLANATION - This series of MÖRKTOBER posts allows me to indulge world building revolving around my home-brewed CY_BORG setting, MALTA 213X. This time around we remain in Valletta, which the previous entry did describe as a city of mutant architecture and lurking dangers.
Malta is an island of effigies, being replete with niches and statues featuring saints, knights, politicians, and so many other notable figures. In no other place is this more evident than the former capital, Valletta, a city once built by gentlemen, for gentlemen. Now abandoned due to the Dimensional Distortion Event (DDE), Valletta is now a constantly shifting dungeons where building locations are constantly shuffled even as it retains the same familiar grid street layout.
Inconsistent geography is hardly the only peril anyone foolhardy enough to venture in Valletta has to face. One of these is the statues. Somehow the DDE has led to predatory sculpture, effigies that lie in wait for prey. Get close to one of these and you’ll end up mercilessly ambushed by living stone armed with razor-sharp teeth and talons. Keep your eyes peeled and weapons readied, wannabe Stalkers - last thing you want on your grand city adventure is to end up beaten to death by what was once believed to be a miraculous effigy of Christ the Redeemer…
